The Path of the Shapeshifter
The Art of Helena Nelson-Reed
We are the ancestors; the stuff of myth and legend surrounds and interacts with us, flowing within and without our
experiences...as in the land of Fairie, earthly time flows in uneven waves-minutes may creep, and days fly. Across the span
of decades we witness and participate in epic battles, undergo seemingly insurmountable challenges, and travel all manner
of terrain. Angels, fairies, heroes, wizards and shapeshifters walk amongst us garbed not in exotic costume of a distant past,
but disguised in the mundane clothing of our early 21st century. Indeed, we may unknowingly assume one or more of these
roles in the legend of someone else's life.
Helena Nelson-Reed is an American artist who specializes in watercolor and pencil for fine art illustration and portraits. Helena's
collections portray a visionary world focused on positive, feminine archetypal imagery. Each painting offers the viewer a portal
into their imagination, tapping ancient wellsprings of knowledge and emotion.
The Path of the Shapeshifter is one of many mythologically inspired pieces showcased in Ancient Spirit, Modern Voice,
a catalogue of artwork from the Mythic Journeys Art Exhibition curated by Karen Shaffer and Charles Vess. Copies of
Ancient Spirit, Modern Voice are available through the Mythic Imagination Institute
Marketplace.
