"People know there are huge changes going on in the world,
but most people just switch off — our job is to turn them back on." — Robert Swan
Robert Swan's dream began at the age of eleven. Inspired by Captain Robert Falcon
Scott's voyages to the last great wilderness on earth, Swan went on to make his own
mark as an explorer — becoming the first person in history to walk to both poles.
Following Amundsen and Scott to the poles, his expeditions convinced him that a positive
message involving the world of industry, business and commerce — with young
people and the environment — was the only way forward.
Swan holds a BA in Ancient History from Durham University and was awarded the
Polar Medal by H.M. Queen Elizabeth II. In 1989 he was appointed United Nations
Goodwill Ambassador with Special Responsibility for Youth. The Robert Swan
Foundation is a registered charity for the promotion of youth and scientific endeavour in the
environment.
