Holly Black is a bestselling author of several contemporary fantasy novels
for children and teens. The Spiderwick Chronicles, a 5-book New York Best Selling
collaboration with Tony DiTerlizzi, has been called "vintage Victorian fantasy" by the
New York Post. The series received starred reviews in Publisher's Weekly
and Kirkus, and has been translated into 27 languages worldwide.
Black's suburban fantasy debut novel,Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale also received
starred reviews in Publisher's Weekly and Kirkus Reviews. Booklist called
Tithe "dark, edgy, beautifully written, and compulsively readable." A finalist for the
Mythopoeic Award, Tithe was one of the ALA's Best Books for Young Adults and the
New York Public Library's "Best 2002 Books for the Teenage".
Her most recent works include Valiant, a novel set both in and underneath
New York, and Notebook for Fantastical Observations, an interactive storybook based
on The Spiderwick Chronicles that features seventeen mini-adventures collected from
faerie watchers around the globe, as well as pages for readers to add their own stories,
maps, charts, notes, lists, diagrams, and drawings.
