Brenda SuttonEditor's Note: Brenda Sutton is the Publisher of Mythic Passages, and the Director of Administration, Events Coordinator, and Corporate Secretary for the Mythic Imagination Institute. In addition, she is an award-winning singer/songwriter who also plays the guitar and bodhrán as a member of Three Weird Sisters performing at Mythic Journeys '06. Brenda recently sang a new song at the Mythic Imagination Institute Leadership Team meeting. Here are her words:

"You asked for the lyrics to my new song, 'On This Good Day'. They came after serious reflection on Joseph Campbell's maxim "follow your bliss". I wasted ten productive years doing administrative work for the carpet industry — not that there's anything wrong with working in any particular industry — but I could have turned my service to something that mattered to me. Instead, I chose to further the cause of yarn with glue on the back. Going forward, I've decided to use Honora Foah's Pink Cheek Philosophy as my guide. What makes your eyes brighten? What makes your cheeks turn pink? That's what you should be doing."

And now, she is!

"On This Good Day"

When I get up on this good day
Will this day be my last?
Will the shining rays of the dawn I see
Be the very last rays of dawn for me?
Will this rising sun or this cloudy sky
Be the last I see before I die?
Then I'd better look long and for all I'm worth
On the beauty of this good mother Earth
When I get up on this good day.

Chorus:
No one knows,
Oh, no one knows
If the very next step is the last step that you'll take.
Chances come,
Chances come and chances go
And life is what you make it
So make it.

When I set to work on this good day
Will this job be my last?
When I make my list of "stuff" to do
Will the choice I make help me or you?
Do I plan or play? Should I slave or shirk?
What coin will I show for this day's work?
Will the course I set shift a single grain
Of sand on the desert of mortal pain
When I go to work on this good day?

When I go to sleep on this good day
Will this sleep be my last?
Have I told the ones whom I love the most
That I do, for I can't when I'm a ghost?
Will I toss around on a bed of nails
Made of my regrets for my "tries" and "fails"?
Will the folk who matter miss my face?
Will I leave a hole in the human race
When I go to sleep on this good day?
