"Myth is the
foundation of life; it is the timeless pattern, the
religious formula to which life shapes itself."
— Thomas Mann
Mythic Journeys Art Exhibit
During the month of May and
the conference week in June 2004, we’re filling the DeFoor Center, a prestigious
5000 sq. ft. gallery close to downtown Atlanta. The city of Atlanta will
have an opportunity to see masterful paintings, photography, sculpture,
and mixed media highlighting the power of myth, the very best work from
artists like Brian and Wendy Froud, Alan Lee, Virginia Lee, Terri Windling,
Charles Vess, and many others displayed in this striking setting. We'll
offer more details soon, but expect the exhibit to open a few weeks before
the conference.
A New Logo for Mythic
Imagination Institute
Secret sigils and symbols
have been replaced in modern society with logos and branding, but the purpose
remains: the visual conveyance of key messages in simple form.
The folks who are putting
on the Mythic Journeys conference have come together under a common banner
designed by John Bridges.
This logo will represent
the parent organization in all programs, including conference, travel,
exhibitions, and more. Its striking design evokes mystery, animus, diversity,
creativity, and limitless possibility.
Watch for a New Look on
our Web Site,

for you
Even as Thomas Mann spoke
of timeless patterns, the Mythic Journeys web site www.mythicjourneys.org
has been undergoing a creative and informative retooling of its pattern,
shape and formula. This updated map launches soon and should guide you
with surety on your upcoming Mythic Journey.
Registration for the
conference will be available as soon as this new site launches.
We’ll be sure to send you
a note, as long as you’ve given us your e-mail address on the current
site.

Our Partners
We're very excited to announce
a new partnership in this issue. We're finalizing a partnership with Parabola
magazine. In addition to covering the conference in the magazine, we're
exploring special events, perhaps including a film festival the weekend
before Mythic Journeys.
We've also begun developing
partnerships with other organizations with missions that are compatible
with ours. After all, our goal is to forge a community. It benefits us
all to work together.
Our first partners, The Joseph
Campbell Foundation, Emory University's center for Myth and Ritual in American
Life (MARIAL), and the Atlanta Jung Society, have already been of tremendous
help to us. We've joined forces with wo sister organizations, Interstitial
Arts and Terri Winding's Endicott Studio for the Mythic Arts.
We'll soon be working with
another partner, digital media developer Distant Train (developer of the
Big Myth), to create tools for teaching mythic literacy. Look for more
announcements in the next issue. In the meantime, please visit our partners
