Poetry, music, art, dance and film have the power to touch our souls. Myth, the great reservoir of human wisdom, underlies that power. Myth guides, inspires and heals.
At Mythic Journeys, we'll bring together an extraordinary community to experience and explore the deep resonance of these patterns through workshops, performance, and presentations. As the imagination is touched, the heart is inspired, and our inner ability to navigate our moral questions awakens.
The Big Story
Every morning we'll come together to hear a master storyteller guide us through one of the great stories from around the world from the Kalevala to Jumping Mouse.
The Big Conversation
Every afternoon we'll gather for the Big Conversations, interdisciplinary discussions about contemporary issues through the lens of mythic imagination. Imagine James Hillman and Marina Warner, Elaine Pagels and Sam Keen, Joyce Carol Oates and Robert Bly, Marion Woodman and Coleman Barks, Charles de Lint, Jean Shinoda Bolen, Scott Livengood and Alan Lee in spontaneous dialogue.
Performance
At night, Mythic Journeys transforms into a Performance Arts Festival - concerts, theater, dance, film, drumming, and even a rock opera. Experience ecstatic poets Coleman Barks and Robert Bly accompanied by Armenian musicians, Tom Key as C.S. Lewis, African drummers, Finnish flautist and storyteller Ulla Suokko, Chief Jake Swamp, British actress Carran Waterfield as Godiva. And this is only a sampling of the international performances that are lined up.
All Day Long
Readings, stories, and living room discussions will be going on throughout the day. Hear authors and storytellers such as Joyce Carol Oates, Galway Kinnell, Peter S. Beagle, Terri Windling, Joseph Bruchac, Michael Meade and many others. Participate in workshops on everything from gnosis with Richard Smoley to "the Reimagination of the Corporation" wtih Krispy Kreme president/CEO Scott Livengood, to mask making with Brian and Wendy Froud. Relax and enjoy a film by guests Michael Tobias, Mickey Lemle, Eric Saperston or Kevin Peer. There are dozens of activities and presentations; a great festival of music, theatre and learning.
Every life is a story. Depart on a mythic journey, and go places you never dreamed existed.
