William Hansen, Ph. D. received his Ph. D. in Classics at the University of California, Berkeley, where he worked with mythologist Joseph Fontenrose and folklorist Alan Dundes. Presently, he is a professor of classical studies and folklore, co-director of the program in mythology studies, and chair of classical studies at Indiana University, Bloomington. He is the author of Ariadne's Thread: A Guide to International Tales Found in Classical Literature, Anthology of Ancient Greek Popular Literature, Phlegon of Tralles' Book of Marvels, and The Conference Sequence: Patterned Narration and Narrative Inconsistency in the Odyssey.
